Privacy Policy

Effective April 19, 2026

BuggyTrivia (“we,” “us,” or “BuggyTrivia”) operates the website at buggytrivia.com (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information (hosts)

To host a game you sign in with Google. From Google we receive your name, email address, profile picture URL, and a unique Google account identifier. We do not receive your Google password.

Player information

Players who join a room with a code provide a display name. We do not require players to create accounts and we do not collect email addresses for code-only players.

Gameplay data

We store the rooms and games you create or join, the questions that appear in them, your answers, scores, bracket outcomes, and the list of questions you have already seen (so we do not show you the same question twice).

Technical data

Our hosting and infrastructure providers automatically log standard request metadata such as IP address, user agent, timestamps, and error traces for reliability and abuse prevention.

2. How we use your information

  • Authenticate hosts and keep game sessions active.
  • Run the live tournament: brackets, buzzer, scoring, and reveals.
  • Avoid repeating questions you have already answered.
  • Show you your own game history and stats on your profile.
  • Debug errors, protect the Service from abuse, and improve features.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us operate the Service and only to the extent needed:

  • Google — for OAuth sign-in.
  • Supabase — for database, authentication, and realtime features.
  • Sentry — for error monitoring.
  • PostHog — for aggregated product analytics.

When a winner is announced we may direct the winner to an Amazon gift card page via an affiliate link. We do not send your personal information to Amazon; redemption happens entirely on Amazon’s site under their own terms.

4. Visibility inside a game

Your display name, avatar (if you signed in with Google), buzzer status, answers, and cursor position are visible in real time to other participants in the same room. Do not use a display name you are not comfortable sharing with everyone else in the room.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and gameplay history for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time by contacting us; we will remove your profile, player rows, and question-history records within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal or security reasons.

6. Security

We use industry-standard measures including HTTPS, row-level security on our database, and a strict Content Security Policy. No online service is perfectly secure; please use a strong Google account password and enable two-factor authentication on your Google account.

7. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Email us to exercise any of these rights.

9. International users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.

11. Contact
