These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of BuggyTrivia at buggytrivia.com (the “Service”). By accessing the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What BuggyTrivia is
BuggyTrivia is a free web app for hosting and playing 1v1 elimination trivia tournaments. A host creates a room, invites 2–30 players, and runs live matches with a shared buzzer. Optional “buggy” mode injects unpredictable rule twists for fun.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. Hosts must sign in with a Google account and are responsible for everything that happens in rooms they create.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the Google account you use to sign in and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for anything illegal, harassing, or abusive.
- Enter a display name that impersonates another person, infringes a trademark, or contains slurs or obscene content.
- Attempt to bypass, probe, or disrupt the Service’s security or rate limits, including buzzer locking, question dedup, or room access controls.
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute trivia questions or other content from the Service in bulk.
- Use automation, bots, or scripts to play or host games.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the Service.
5. Content in games
Trivia questions are drawn from third-party knowledge sources and curated lists. We make a good-faith effort to keep them accurate and inoffensive, but we do not warrant that every question is correct, up-to-date, or suitable for every audience. If you find a problem with a question, contact us.
6. Prizes and Amazon affiliate link
BuggyTrivia does not sell, fulfill, or fund any prize. When a host sets a prize label and a game has a winner, we may surface an Amazon gift card purchase link. That link is an Amazon Associates affiliate link: if the host chooses to buy through it, Amazon may pay BuggyTrivia a small commission at no extra cost to the host. Amazon is solely responsible for its own products, terms, and delivery. The host is solely responsible for actually buying and delivering any promised prize to their winner.
7. Intellectual property
The BuggyTrivia name, logo, software, design, and original content are owned by BuggyTrivia and protected by copyright and trademark law. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
8. Third-party services
The Service uses Google OAuth for sign-in, Supabase for data and realtime infrastructure, and Sentry and PostHog for error and product analytics. Your use of the Service through these providers is also subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
9. Disclaimer
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR ACCURACY. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION, AND BRACKETS OR QUESTIONS MAY BEHAVE IN SURPRISING WAYS — ESPECIALLY IN BUGGY MODE.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BUGGYTRIVIA WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR PRIZES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (USD 100).
11. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify BuggyTrivia against any claim or liability arising from your use of the Service, your content or display name, or your violation of these Terms.
12. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be indicated by updating the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
14. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. You and BuggyTrivia agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought and resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
